In response to community needs, Bristol Bay Native Corporation (BBNC) will make $250,000 in contributions to communities throughout Bristol Bay for COVID-19 relief. In addition, BBNC is making a $50,000 donation to the Bristol Bay Food Bank and a $25,000 donation to the Food Bank of Alaska.

BBNC has also established a COVID-19 Response Team to assess Bristol Bay’s needs, identify resources, and deploy response measures. The team determined that community assistance is critical right now and will enable villages to order basic essential needs, whether it’s food, cleaning supplies, or Personal Protective Equipment. Funds will be issued to communities based on population and will be paid as soon as possible.

“The past several weeks have been like none we have experienced before,” said Jason Metrokin, BBNC President & CEO. “BBNC is committed to supporting the needs of our shareholders and region as we navigate this crisis. With these funds, BBNC intends to bridge the gap between the immediate needs of communities and the long-term needs being met by state and federal relief programs.”

BBNC’s COVID-19 Response Team will continue to work closely with villages and organizations, across Bristol Bay and beyond, to assess shareholder and community needs both in-region and outside.

BBNC and the other regional corporations support Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs Tara Katuk Sweeney and continue to be supportive of Indian Country to fight COVID-19. Read the ANCSA Regional Association (ARA) statement here.
