New Cultural Heritage Awards

The BBNC Education Foundation Board of Directors are pleased to announce three Cultural Heritage and Place Name grant awards for the third quarter of 2019 totaling $15,000 in new grant awards:

Igiugig Village Council received an award of $5,000 to support the purchase of regalia and development of songs and dances for the Makuryat Yurartet (No-See-Um Dancers), the community Yup’ik dance group of Igiugig Village.

Newhalen Tribal Council will utilize a $5,000 award to support culture camps\ in their community, and create opportunities for students to learn Iliamna Lake Yup’ik place names.

Curyung Tribal Council/ Bristol Bay 4H received $5,000 to support their project “Celebrating— Ourselves Our Past and Our Future” to promote Native values and provide Native cultural education for youth in Dillingham.
