King Salmon Derby on the Nushagak

BBNC Education Foundation hosted a two-day king salmon derby on the Nushagak River near Dillingham on June 21-23. BBNCEF received $112,000 in cash and in-kind services to support the Foundation’s mission. Thank you to all our sponsors including our key sponsors GCI and Weidner Apartment Homes. BBNCEF also received a surprise donation from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation of $10,000. These funds will help open new career paths through specialized trainings, allows students to follow their dreams, and Bristol Bay’s cultural heritage going strong.

Katie Leadbetter from Anchorage, AK

The event also featured a rich array of cultural heritage demonstrations and information for visitors, including an art exhibit featuring the work of talented shareholder artist Apayuq Moore, Native Place Names and traditional fish cutting. The team processed several buckets of salted fish heads that were donated to Elders in Dillingham and village communities.
